Exclusive: Amazon Signs Indie Author Lia Fairchild

Amazon’s newer imprints have been getting all the press lately, but today, AmazonEncore has announced the signing of indie author Lia Fairchild. Her debut novel In Search of Lucy will be re-released next Spring in both paper and digital formats with a spiffy new cover, and – most importantly – that much-coveted marketing push. AmazonEncore was the company’s first foray into publishing in 2009, albeit on a smaller scale than we are seeing with the new imprints. Their mission has been to “unearth exceptional books and emerging authors” and over the past two years, they have published work from authors such as Christopher Herz, Stephen Leather, Joe Konrath, and Karen McQuestion. Here’s the official announcement:

Indie Author Traci Hohenstein Signs Four-Book Deal With Amazon

Traci Hohenstein has signed on with Amazon’s increasingly acquisitive imprint, Thomas & Mercer, on a four-book deal, comprised of her indie smash hit Burn Out and three subsequent novels, as yet unpublished. This is somewhat new ground for Thomas & Mercer in that Traci doesn’t have a huge backlist (Burn Out was her debut), and unlike most of their authors, she doesn’t have some background in trade publishing. In fact, she only self-published her debut title in April, the only work she has released thus far (although the sequel is imminent). Quite the meteoric rise. I have enjoyed sharing the news here of deals struck by J Carson Black, Michael Wallace, and Scott Nicholson, but this is particularly special given all of Read More…

Scott Nicholson Signs Two-Book Deal With Amazon

Scott Nicholson has been picked up by Amazon’s increasingly busy imprint Thomas & Mercer. He signed a two-book deal which will include his self-published title, Liquid Fear, and the forthcoming sequel, Chronic Fear. Both will be released by Amazon on December 20 this year. Summer is traditionally a slow period in publishing. Not for Thomas & Mercer, who have also snapped up Michael Wallace and J Carson Black in the last ten days, adding them to their earlier batch of summer signings JA Konrath, Barry Eisler, and Blake Crouch. Along with some of the popular backlist titles of Ed McBain, Thomas & Mercer have an extremely strong line-up heading into the holiday season and beyond.

Exclusive: Indie Author Michael Wallace Signs 5 Book Deal With Amazon

Indie writer Michael Wallace has been signed to a 5 book deal by Amazon’s imprint Thomas & Mercer, hot on the heels of the deal they struck with J Carson Black last week. Michael is the author of several thrillers, including the bestselling Righteous series, The Red Rooster, and The Devil’s Deep.  His newest self-published title The Devil’s Peak, was released today. He now joins J Carson Black, JA Konrath, Blake Crouch, Barry Eisler, and Ed McBain in what is a top-drawer line-up for Amazon’s new mystery and thriller imprint. Here’s the official announcement from Publisher’s Lunch:

That Bear Ate My Pants: A Home Run On Day One

Today, I have a guest post from indie author Tony James Slater. I first met Tony at a writer’s conference in 2010. Neither of us remember much about the encounter, which is a testament to the hard working bar staff of York University. I was trying to snag an agent for my historical novel, and he was hitting the same brick wall with his account of his exotic adventures in Ecuador. When I heard Tony was self-publishing, I was delighted, as I knew how hard he had worked the traditional route, with no joy. I also knew that if his book was half as funny as he was, he had a hit on his hands. He posted a sample from Read More…
